Beidler Forest

Summer Camp

Come fall in love with a bird. Or two. Or more! Photo: Camilla Cerea

Here in the world’s largest old-growth cypress-tupelo swamp forest, it’s easy to awaken your child's love for nature!  Beidler Forest offers three week-long summer day-camps.  There are usually two Swamp Camps (for 6-12 year olds) and one Advanced Camp (for 13-16 year olds).

Both levels of camp focus not just on birds, but more broadly on wildlife and ecology.  For example, our 2017 theme was “Amazing Migration.”  Learning how and why mammals, birds, and insects migrate, campers discovered that our world is much more connected than they might have realized.

Swamp Camp (ages 6-12)

Swamp Camp meets from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., Monday-Friday.  The cost is $100 for each camper.

Campers spend the days outside exploring the various habitats throughout the sanctuary.  This is an up-close-and-personal swamp experience!  Activities will include bird-watching, water chemistry analysis, canoeing, aquatic bug sampling, and much more.

Space in Swam Camp is limited.  Please call Beidler Forest at 843-462-2150 to secure a place for your child, or send an email to Noel Williams, nwilliams@audubon.org.  An enrollment form can be downloaded here.

A limited number of scholarships are available.

Advanced Camp (ages 13-16)

Advanced Camp also meets from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., Monday-Friday.  The cost is $115 per camper.
