Altamaha Town Heritage Preserve
Old Bailey Road, Okatie, 29909
Please join us for this special program as we explore Altamaha Town Heritage Preserve, a property protected with funds from the Beaufort County Rural & Critical Land Preservation Program. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this 100-acre sanctuary was purchased for its historical and archeological significance, but its mature woodlands also host a diversity of wildlife. Birds will be the main focus of this guided walk, but all organisms encountered will be discussed and enjoyed! We will walk the 0.8-mile (one-way) trail through the woods and down to the marsh, looking for wildlife as we go. This program is FREE but does require advanced registration. Space is limited, so please sign up soon. All ages and experience levels are invited. Don't have binoculars? No problem! We'll have some extras to share. Close-toed shoes are required and long pants are suggested. Please bring water, snacks and insect repellent. Note that there are no restroom facilities at this site.
