How to Get Involved
Hands On
Participating in one of our Citizen Science projects can be a fun and rewarding experience. Data collected from Citizen Science projects can be extremely valuable in monitoring the health of our bird populations. The oldest and perhaps most popular Citizen Science project in the United States is Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count which was first started more than 100 years ago. To learn more about Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count and how to participate, visit the website or contact your local Audubon Chapter. Many of our chapters also conduct Spring and Fall Migration Counts.
In April of 2007, Audubon South Carolina organized the first ever Spring Swallow-tailed Kite Survey, a boat-based survey designed assess population trends and distribution of Swallow-tailed Kites in our state. We hope to build a long term data set on the Swallow-tailed Kite in South Carolina, but we cannot do this project without help from numerous volunteers. If you are interested in participating in the Spring Swallow-tailed Kite Survey, please contact Jeff Mollenhauer at jmollenhauer@audubon.org.
