Newhall
The Audubon Newhall Preserve is a 50-acre sanctuary that preserves a unique natural environment and provides a protected habitat for plants and animals indigenous to the South Carolina Lowcountry. It is a woodland community known as a Pine/Saw Palmetto Flatwoods and is in the northern-most area of this rare South Carolina plant community. The only nature preserve on Hilton Head Island that is outside gated communities, it is free.

Trail guides help visitors navigate the walking trails in the Preserve. Trees and plants are labeled. It is open every day of the year from daylight to dark. During the spring and fall, interpretive walks are offered for a fee. Guided walks for groups can be arranged; call 843-842-9246.

The Audubon Newhall Preserve is located off Palmetto Bay Road between the end of the Cross Island Parkway and the Sea Pines Circle.
