Sanctuaries

Currently, three South Carolina chapters of the Audubon own sanctuaries. Together, they total over 800 acres!

Hilton Head Audubon’s Newhall Preserve is open to the public. Columbia Audubon’s Wannamaker Nature Preserve near St. Matthews, SC and the Charleston Natural History Society’s McAlheney Preserve on the Edisto River near Reevesville, SC are only open during special events and walks.
