Seeing the Forest for the Trees
June 9-13, 2008

Seeing the Forest for the Trees is a hands-on workshop in the Forests of the Low Country. Teachers spend five days with forestry professionals from conservation organizations, forest industry, federal, state and local governments, as well as family forest owners, to get a better understanding of the many goals of the Low Country's forests. At the end of the week, teachers are Project Learning Tree (PLT) trained and able to use this award-winning, standards-based, environmental education program in the classroom and will qualify for 33 recertification units.

See agenda. Meals and transportation will be provided. The fee is $65. The registration form can be downloaded here.

For more information, contact Mike Dawson, Audubon Francis Beidler Forest, 843.462.2150 or Jennifer Howard, MeadWestvaco, 843.851.4610.

Audubon Center at Beidler Forest Announces
Summer Day Camps for 2008

Parents, and grandparents, summer is just around the corner and with it comes a choice of three week-long summer day-camps at The Audubon Center at Francis Beidler Forest. Nestled in the rural region of upper Dorchester County, Francis Beidler Forest contains the largest remaining stand of virgin, cypress-tupelo swamp in the world. This is the perfect setting for stimulating a love for nature.

With a Native American theme, campers will become amateur naturalists themselves by engaging in science, hands-on activities and crafts with supplemental presentations from area experts.

The programs for the summer camp are geared for grades 1 through 6. The camp day will last from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. Please call Beidler Forest at 843-462-2150 to request an enrollment form and to secure a place for your child in the week of your choice or e-mail to mmusselman@audubon.org.
